In 1999 , workers discovered skeletons at a subway construction site in New York City . The archaeologist, Karen Goodleaf, examines the mysterious find and discovers the key. The devil's servant tries to take it from her, but is stopped by the Templar monk Lukas. He cannot finally kill him because he is immortal and repeatedly takes over the body of his next victim by touching it. Karen and Lukas flee to a Mohawk Indian reservation with the indestructible key . Michael Baer, Karen's old grandfather, and the young Indian, Gray Eagle, smuggle Karen and Lukas in camouflage suits into a radioactive toxic waste dump to hide the key there. The bad guy, called Wendigo by the Indians , kills the old man, the policeman Roseberry, who is investigating the case, and his colleagues. Lukas can not stop the Minion and pursues him as far as Jerusalem to the abbey of his monastery, where the portal to hell is located. All members of the order die and finally there is a decisive sword fight between the two men. Lukas defeats the Minion and is able to remove the key from the door with Karen before it is blown open.
