Koçkuyusu is a village ( Köy ) in the Mazgirt district of the Turkish province of Tunceli . In 2011, 60 people lived in Koçkuyusu. According to unconfirmed sources, the village had over 500 inhabitants at the end of the 1980s, due to the ongoing migration to Europe, especially to Germany and to larger cities in Turkey, the village is severely underpopulated in the winter months. In the summer months, most of the relatives living outside, especially from Europe, return to enjoy their vacation there. The village used to be called Dilanoglu, which is still common today among the residents. The small village is known throughout the area for its good quality water. One can take Kockuyusu as an example of the successful assimilation policy of the Turkish government to depopulate rural Kurdish areas in order to minimize the retreats of the PKK, which operates very actively in this region. Turkey's policy was deliberately enforced through refusal to invest and constant raids by the army in the village, which forced most residents to migrate in the 1990s.
