history

Story of Kobylany

The place was first mentioned in 1358 as Cobile , when it received German law from King Casimir the Great . The original name was derived from the adjective kobyli ( cf.kobyła - mare or a wooden lock that obstructs the entrance to the city ), from 1397 Cobilany (1401 also Cobilno or 1405 Kobilin ), which means the residents (the suffix -any) of the local Kobyle referred.

Politically, the village belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 in the aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Krakow Voivodeship , Biecz District . The local church became the seat of a Helvetic parish during the Reformation under the Męciński family . The local Calvinist priest Jakub Bzicki and another Jakub attended the synods in Pińczów and Włodzisław . Around 1620 the seat of this congregation was moved from the church to the manor, and later a separate prayer house was built. Helvetic pastors such as Paweł Ryzer and Paweł Petroselin were later active there. Calvinism in Kobylany did not completely disappear until 1720.

Local church from 1775

During the first partition of Poland , Kobylany became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804). From 1855 Kobylany belonged to the Krosno District .

After the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Habsburg Monarchy , Kobylany came to Poland in 1918. This was only interrupted by the German occupation of Poland in World War II . From 1975 to 1998 Kobylany was part of the Krosno Voivodeship .
