Kocs [ ˈkotʃ ] is a municipality with about 2,600 inhabitants in the small area of Tata in Komárom-Esztergom County in northern Hungary . The first settlement in the area of today's Koc dates from the Bronze Age , the place was first mentioned in a document in 1237.
In the early modern era, Kocs was famous for the manufacture of spring-loaded coaches, an invention that has been forgotten since Roman times. The term carriage is derived from the Hungarian kocsi , which means "from Kocs".
