The Kodály Choir Hamburg was founded on February 7, 1972. It is a mixed choir , organized as a non-profit association , and a member of the Hamburg Choir Association . The choir has named itself after Zoltán Kodály in order to document its connection to contemporary choral music that can be sung by amateur choirs, but also to choral music influenced by folk music .

  • Fritz Bultmann founded the choir in 1972 and directed it for almost 39 years until the end of 2010. He is an honorary member of the Kodály Choir.

The choir is primarily dedicated to a cappella literature from the 16th to the 21st century. The range of rehearsals of sacred and secular choral literature ranges from Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli to Martín Palmeri's Magnificat , from works by Hans Leo Haßler to Peter Michael Hamel . In addition to European choral music, you can also find South American choral music on the concert programs. Competitions

The choir has successfully participated in many choir competitions. He has won several prizes at the Hamburg state competitions and was a finalist at the German Choir Competition in Cologne (1982), Hanover (1985), Regensburg (1998) and Osnabrück (2002). In 1998 he received the special prize of the city of Regensburg for the best interpretation of a German folk song ( In a cool reason ) .

The choir competed in international choir competitions in 1987 in Arnhem, the Netherlands (IKF 1987 Arnhem), in 2005 at the 4th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition ( Musica Mundi ) in Wernigerode (category winner and golden diploma) and in 2012 at the competition of the German Choir Association in Frankfurt (2 .
