Koitzsch ( Upper Sorbian Chojny ) is a district of the Neukirch municipality in the Bautzen district in Saxony . The place belongs to the administrative community of Königsbrück and was an independent municipality until January 1, 1999.

location

Koitzsch is located in the Königsbrücker Heide , around ten kilometers west of Kamenz and 30 kilometers northeast of Dresden . Surrounding villages are Neukirch in the north, Petershain and Schwosdorf in the east, Häslich in the southeast, Reichenau in the south, Königsbrück in the west and Weißbach in the northwest.

Koitzsch is on the state road 100. The federal road 97 between Dresden and Hoyerswerda is about four kilometers west of Koitzsch.

history

The street village Koitzsch was first mentioned in documents in 1439 under the name Kayetz . In 1453 the place Coyacz was named as a knight's seat , in 1646 the village was subordinate to the Koitzsch manor. In 1658 the place was first mentioned under its current name, the name Kotzschdorff was also in use at that time. In the Middle Ages, Koitzsch belonged to Neukirch and later to Schmorkau , the Roman Catholic inhabitants of Koitzsch were parish off to Spittel in the 19th century .

Until 1875 Koitzsch was administered by the Königsbrück court office, which finally merged with the Kamenz and Pulsnitz court office districts to form the Kamenz administration . From this, the Kamenz district was finally formed in 1939 . Of 25 July 1952 to the German reunification it belonged to the district Kamenz in the East German district of Dresden and following the succeeding existing district Kamenz . On January 1, 1996 Koitzsch became part of the new Westlausitz-Dresdner Land district as part of a municipal area reform , which was renamed the Kamenz district three months later .

On January 1, 1999 Koitzsch was incorporated into Neukirch . Since August 2008 the place belongs to the district of Bautzen .

population

The population of the village of Koitzsch in 1777 consisted of four possessed men , eight gardeners and ten cottagers . In 1834 there were 136 inhabitants, this number rose to 155 by 1871. In 1890 the Koitzsch had 125 inhabitants, 20 years later there were again 176 inhabitants. By 1939 the number of inhabitants increased further to 229, after the end of the Second World War Koitzsch had 276 inhabitants, also due to the influx of displaced persons from the German eastern regions. In the 1925 census, 185 Evangelical Lutheran and ten Catholic residents were registered. In the year of reunification Koitzsch had 308 inhabitants.
