The Kakschaaltoo ( Kyrgyz Какшаал Тоо Kakschaal-Too ; Russian Кокшаал-Тау or Кокшалтау ) is a mountain range in the Tienschan in Central Asia .
The Kakshaaltoo forms a section of the main ridge of the Tienschan along the border between Kyrgyzstan in the north and the People's Republic of China in the south. It extends over a length of about 400 km in an east-west direction. Its mean altitude is between 4000 and 6000 m. The highest point of the Kakshaaltoo is the mountain Dschengisch Tschokusu in the extreme east of the mountain range with a height of 7439 m . The highest peak in the western part of the mountain range is the 5,982 m high Pik Dankow ( Dankowa ).
To the north of the Kakschaaltoos there are mountain ranges with heights between 1000 and 1500 m. The Tarim basin lies at the foot of the southern slope . The Kakshaaltoo is surrounded by foothills. The central and eastern part of the mountain range is glaciated . The glacier area is given as 983 km².
The mountains consist of limestone , siltstone , sandstone , conglomerate and slate . There are also intrusions of granite and syenite .
The rivers Saryjas ( Kumarik ), Üsönggükuusch and Kakschaal ( Toxkan ) cut through the Kakshaaltoo mountain range in narrow gorges and divide it into a western, a central and an eastern section.
Steppe vegetation grows on the southern slopes of the Kakschaaltoos .
