Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy was a department of the European Commission that existed from 1999 to 2007 and from 2010 to 2012 with responsibility for health and consumer protection . Both policy areas are currently dealt with in separate departments. The Commissioner was attached to the Directorate-General for Health and Consumers (since 2014 Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety ).

After the EU enlargement , in January 2007 the department was divided into a Commissioner for Health and a Commissioner for Consumer Protection .

In the Barroso II Commission , which took office in February 2010, the two departments have now been reunited. In addition, the area of pharmaceuticals , which was previously part of the Enterprise and Industry portfolio, has since come under the responsibility of the Commissioner for Health.
