from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The municipal elections in Saarland on 1946 took place on September 12, 1946. The local councils were elected.

background

These were the first elections in the French protectorate of Saarland and the first democratic elections after the end of the Nazi dictatorship . From 1947 the Saarland was an autonomous area under French protection. In the following year, the state elections in Saarland in 1947 were the first state elections. The election took place under occupation law and was subject to restrictions. The holding of the elections basically corresponded to democratic principles, although it was carried out under occupation law. Parties and candidates required the approval of the occupation authorities. This approval was also given as long as the candidates were not burdened by their activities during the National Socialist era . Functionaries of the NSDAP and their organizations as well as other incriminated persons had no right to vote.

Only three parties were allowed nationwide, not including the DPS . In addition, local lists were running.
