Konrad Becker , also Pistorius or Pistor , (* in Braunschweig ; † 1588 there ) was an Evangelical Lutheran theologian .

Life

Becker was born the son of a mayor in Braunschweig. He was a frequently called belligerent Lutheran theologian who was in contact with Joachim Mörlin , Martin Chemnitz and Tilemann Heßhusen . He received his PhD in 1552 in Wittenberg for doctor of theology, studied further in Rostock and returned to Wittenberg as a lecturer. As a strict Gnesiolutheran , he went to Königsberg and Braunschweig as a pastor , in 1555 to Güstrow and in 1556 to Stade as the main preacher at St. Pancratii Church, where he became superintendent .

He married in Braunschweig. In 1558, on the recommendation of Mörlin, he was recommended to Hildesheim as superintendent , but stayed in Stade. Hesshusen suggested that he go to Bremen as superintendent. This also failed, probably primarily because of the dispute there between the Reformed and Lutherans.

In 1562 he went to Güstrow as superintendent and took part in all ecclesiastical organizations of the Mecklenburg Church until 1578. In 1562, together with David Chyträus and Simon Pauli , he turned against the Lüneburg edict that no one should be attacked by name from the pulpit. In 1569 he participated in the expulsion of Johann Beatus from Rostock. In the same year he was transferred to Rostock as superintendent because of disputes with the Güstrow magistrate at the instigation of the dukes Johann Albrecht and Anton Ulrich . Here, against the resistance of the university, he set up a consistory , which was essentially a spiritual court. When the consistory was set up in 1571, he became its assessor. From 1574 to 1577, as a representative of the Rostock theologians, he attended the negotiations on the concord formula and signed it in 1577.

When he criticized Duke Anton Ulrich personally in 1578, he was dismissed as a professor, but remained at the university as a doctorate. In 1581 he followed a call to Antwerp and in the same year went to Vienna as a preacher . However , at the end of the same year, Emperor Rudolf II prohibited the practice of the Protestant religion. In October 1582 he received a position as superintendent in Hildesheim. In 1586 there was a dispute with the council about the catechism and competencies, so that he was also released and returned to his hometown, where he died.
