Konrad Eberle (born February 21, 1903 in Langenegg , Vorarlberg , † August 1, 1961 in Vienna ) was an Austrian pediatrician and politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Eberle grew up as a child of a farming family in Tyrol and attended elementary school and grammar school of the Franciscans in Hall in Tyrol . In his youth, Eberle also became a member of the K.Ö.St.V. Star Corona Hall .

Eberle studied at the University of Innsbruck , joined the K.Ö.HV Leopoldina Innsbruck student association in 1924 and obtained his doctorate in 1930. He then trained as a pediatrician and became an assistant at the Innsbruck University Children's Clinic. In 1933/34 Eberle became a so-called "illegal" member of the NSDAP . He was a founding member of the NSBO cell in the Innsbruck Regional Hospital and from May 15, 1934 also a member of the Patriotic Front, which now operates as a unity party .

He moved to Vienna, where he first became senior physician in the Karolinen Children's Hospital in January 1935 and then in April of the same year the primary physician in the Preyer's Children's Hospital . Under his direction, he expanded this hospital from 80 to 200 beds and founded a nursing school in 1937. In 1938 Eberle was appointed "acting head" of the foundation hospital, in the same year also became an official and member of the National Socialist People's Welfare , in 1939 he was appointed director after the city of Vienna took over the management. In April 1940 Eberle became an NSDÄB candidate, whereby he was admitted to the “ Public Health Office ” in September 1940 .

In 1941, Eberle was replaced as "acting head" of the children's hospital by Arnulf Meier , because, according to the National Socialists, Eberle had been close to the former regime due to his "clerical attitude" under Austrofascism . Before and after his replacement, Eberle tried to denounce his competitor and subsequent successor by accusing Meier of a " mixed marriage " with a "fully Jewish woman" and demanding that the management be returned due to this alleged misconduct. In 1943 Eberle tried unsuccessfully to intervene with the responsible district manager with the help of a witness . However, the allegations were not valid enough for the Public Health Office. From 1943 Eberle did military service as a military doctor.

After returning from captivity, Eberle resumed his previous position in the Preyer's Children's Hospital in 1945 and began to get involved in politics. As a professional representative he was on the board of the Vienna Medical Association from 1946, of which he became president in 1954. In 1957 he became president of the Austrian Medical Association. He was also a member of the Supreme Medical Council of the Republic of Austria and the Vienna State Medical Council .

In 1945 Eberle joined the Economic Association of the Austrian People's Party. He co-founded the Association of Austrian Doctors, of which he became chairman from 1952. Eberle was a member of the Vienna City Council for the ÖVP from 1949 to 1961. From 1949 to 1954 he was chairman of the City Council Committee for Health Care.

Konrad Eberle was married to Else Mair since 1935. After his death he was buried in the cemetery of Hall in Tirol. In 1971 Dr.-Eberle-Gasse in Vienna- Favoriten was named after him.
