Konrad Heusinger

Konrad Heusinger , also Conrad Heusinger (born August 2, 1752 in Wolfenbüttel ; † January 12, 1820 there ) was a German classical philologist and teacher .

Life

Heusinger was born as the son of the principal of the large school in Wolfenbüttel and completed his high school there. In 1769 he first went to the University of Helmstedt , but in 1770 he moved to the University of Göttingen . There he was influenced in particular by Christian Gottlob Heyne and decided, like his father, to go to school as a teacher. Nevertheless, he initially worked as a tutor .

In 1778 Heusinger became vice principal of the great school in Wolfenbüttel. In 1790 he followed a call to the headmaster position at the Katharineum in Braunschweig. Under his leadership, the school is said to have flourished again, and he was also distinguished by the use of progressive pedagogy.

Works

Heusinger was editor with Joachim Heinrich Campe , Johann Stuve and Ernst Christian Trapp of the Braunschweigischer Journal . After the death of Johann Heinrich Justus Köppen , he also took over the publication of Latin classics.
