Conrad I of Frankenstein
Konrad I von Frankenstein (* at Castle Breuberg ; † 1264 at Castle Frankenstein in the Odenwald ) was under the name Konrad II. Reiz von Breuberg the likely builder of Frankenstein Castle in the Odenwald and married to Elisabeth von Weiterstadt. It is assumed, however, that at least one mansion owned by the family previously existed on the site of today's castle.
Konrad II. Reiz von Breuberg came from the old dynasty of the Lords of Breuberg from Breuberg Castle and the town of Breuberg in the Odenwald district . In the oldest Frankenstein document dated June 2, 1252 (Franckenstein family archive and Hessian state archive in Darmstadt), he and his wife Elisabeth are named as the contracting party as Conradus dictus Reis de Brueberc and signed super castro in frangenstein . Subsequently he called himself Konrad I von Frankenstein. From this point on, his descendants also called themselves “Herren von und zu Frankenstein ”. The family provided the overlords of Eberstadt (today in Darmstadt ), Nieder-Beerbach (today in Mühltal ), Ober-Beerbach (today in Seeheim-Jugenheim ), Schmal-Beerbach (today in Lautertal), Stettbach (today in Seeheim-Jugenheim) , Allertshofen (now part of Modautal ), Bobstadt and Ockstadt near Friedberg.
The later descendants sold the property he founded to Ludwig VI in 1662 . the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt and left the headquarters. Their descendants acquired both the Ullstadt rulership , a district of Sugenheim , ( Middle Franconia ) and built the baroque palace there, as well as the Traunegg rulership in Upper Austria. Other members of the family now live in Munich, Vienna and the USA.
