Konstantin Alexandrowitsch Maslak ( Russian Константин Александрович Маслак ; born August 27, 1984 in Volgograd ) is a Russian chess grandmaster and poker player .
Chess career
Maslak learned the rules of chess from his father and joined a chess club when he was nine. His chess successes in the youth field remained manageable. At the U16 championship of Russia in Sochi in 2000 , which Nikolai Kurenkow won, he finished fifth. In August 2003 he became International Master . In 2005 he took part with Sibirskije Afiny from Tomsk in the Russian team championship (higher league) in Sochi, achieving the best result on the second board with 6.5 out of 8. In the same year he shared first place with Julian Radulski at the Proclient Cup in Olomouc . At the Moscow Open 2006 he reached fourth place. At the Petrowskaja Ladja S tournament in Peterhof 2006 he was second, tied with the winner Denis Evsejew .
The grandmaster title was awarded to him in March 2008, and he achieved the necessary standards at the Chess Summer GM tournament in Olomouc in 2006 and at two of the Aeroflot Open in Moscow (2007 in group A1, 2008 in group A2). With fourth place in the Russian championship (higher league) in September 2008 in Novokuznetsk , he qualified for the superfinal. In Moscow he could not keep up with the strong competition and ended up in last place without a win. At the beginning of 2009 he won the OBERT Internacional on Illes Medes . In August of the same year he shared first place with Nils Grandelius at the Chess Summer GM tournament in Olomouc.
His Elo rating is 2555 (as of November 2018). This would put him in 84th place in the current Russian ranking, but he is listed as inactive because he has not played any rated games since the Czech Open in Pardubice in July 2017 . His highest rating to date was 2571 in January 2010. In addition to chess, he also plays poker.
