Konstantin Fiedler , also Constantin Fidler , Konstantin Fiedler (the elder) (born March 6, 1579 in Danzig , † October 20, 1644 in Rostock ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and superintendent in Rostock.

Life

Konstantin Fiedler was a grandson of the poet Felix Fiedler († 1553), who came to northern Germany from Switzerland as a religious refugee, and the son of the doctor and later city physician in Königsberg Valerius Fi [e] dler (1525–1595).

He studied Protestant theology at the universities of Königsberg, Copenhagen, Wittenberg, Jena, Leipzig, Tübingen and, from December 1603, Rostock. In 1609 he received his first pastor as a deacon (3rd pastor) at the Rostock Marienkirche . In 1612 he became archdeacon (2nd pastor) and in 1614 (main) pastor. From 1638 he was also superintendent of the Rostock church district.

Fiedler became the progenitor of a family that produced pastors in Mecklenburg for generations. He was first married in 1609 to Margarethe Westphal (1589–1619), daughter of the Rostock pastor and superintendent Joachim Westphal; in his second marriage in 1620 he married Katharine Battus († 1672), a daughter of the court attorney Levin Battus and granddaughter of Levinus Battus . Four of his sons became pastors: Valerius (1622–1657) in Diedrichshagen , Constantin in Malchin , Felix in Teterow and Levin (around 1638–1686) in Zettemin ; two of his daughters also married pastors.

A memorial picture (knee piece) in the Marienkirche commemorates him.
