Konstantynów Łódzki (1943–1945 Tuchingen ) is a city in Poland in the Łódź Voivodeship , Powiat Pabianicki .
history
The origin of the place goes back to the village Żabice Wielkie . The first mention of the village comes from the year 1364. After the second partition of Poland , the village became part of Prussia . With the formation of the Duchy of Warsaw , Żabice Wielkie became part of it and in 1815 part of Congress Poland . The beginning of the city was connected with the building of factories in 1821 by Mikołaj Krzywiec-Okołowicz . This began in the same year with the establishment of textile and cord factories. The town received its town charter nine years later. However, the place lost its rights in 1870. In January 1911 the tram line to Łódź was put into operation. During the First World War , the city was destroyed in 1914. After that, now as part of Poland, Konstantynów Łódzki received city rights again. During the Second World War , the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht and assigned to the Litzmannstadt district . A transit camp for Poles was set up in Konstantynów. Later other nationalities were also passed through here. In 1943 the city was given the German place name Tuchingen , which was supposed to remind of the cloth production. In January 1945 the Red Army marched into the city.
