Coordinator for inter-societal cooperation with Russia, Central Asia and the countries of the Eastern Partnership

The coordinator for inter-societal cooperation with Russia, Central Asia and the countries of the Eastern Partnership , until 2014 under the name of coordinator for German-Russian inter-societal cooperation , or in short: Russia coordinator or Russia commissioner is responsible for joint initiatives on behalf of the German government to advance with the Russian Federation in terms of inter-societal cooperation, as well as for inter-societal cooperation with " Central Asia and the countries of the Eastern Partnership ", d. H. altogether twelve states.

The office was held for a long time by the CDU member of the Bundestag Andreas Schockenhoff (1957-2014), whose advisor from 2008 to 2013 was Barbara von Ow-Freytag . He was followed by Gernot Erler (SPD) in early 2014 . Since August 26, 2020, the office has been held by Johann Saathoff (SPD), who takes over from Dirk Wiese (SPD).
