Duties of the drug commissioner of the federal government

The drug commissioner informs the public in talks, interviews and press releases about current drug and addiction topics that are being dealt with by the federal government. It is primarily responsible for public relations work for the federal government in the field of drugs and addiction. As far as possible, it uses various instruments to inform the general public about addiction-specific topics and to sensitize them to them. In addition, the drug commissioner of the federal government regularly takes on patronage for special projects or events, at which she often appears with greetings or speeches.

She also appoints and heads the Drugs and Addiction Council , which supports her in her work and makes recommendations. In this way, the strategic basis for the drug and addiction policy of the federal government in the coming years will be worked out together.

The presentation of current research reports and studies on the subject of drugs and addiction is also an important part of the work of the Federal Government's Drug Commissioner. The cornerstone here is the drug and addiction report, which is published annually and provides an up-to-date overview of the current data and facts as well as the developments in drug and addiction policy of the federal government. That often provides an opportunity to re-discuss the legalization of soft drugs in a wider public both on the basis of study results and other findings.
