One of the Federal Chancellor's Personal Africa Representative holds the position of Federal Representative and is part of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development . Günter Nooke has held the position since April 2010 .

history

On the occasion of the G8 summit in Genoa in 2001 , Heads of State and Government decided to appoint personal African Affairs.

tasks

The basic principle of the position is maintaining contact with African countries, informing the Federal Chancellor about current political and economic developments on the continent and introducing the African political agenda into the G8 process. The commissioner also prepares meetings between the G7 representatives and their African partners, as well as the meetings of the Africa Global Partnership Platform .

The cooperation between Germany and the African Union is of great importance to the Federal Government . The focus of the cooperation is on helping to secure peace and preventing conflict, as well as supporting development projects in the areas of rural development, education and adaptation to climate change.

The Personal Africa Representative is based in the second office of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in the Europahaus at Stresemannstrasse 94 in Berlin.
