Location of Krapendorf in Lower Saxony |
Krapendorf , also spelled Crapendorf , is today the oldest district of the city of Cloppenburg in the district of the same name in Lower Saxony .
History and geographic scope
The core area of the former church village Krapendorf is today within the inner city of Cloppenburg. The border between the former Krapendorf and the former Cloppenburg is no longer noticeable today, as both settlements have grown together. They were already close together in the late Middle Ages and early modern times, so that the Cloppenburgers, who for a long time did not have their own parish, could go to church in Krapendorf without any problems.
Mother parish and parish
Krapendorf was founded in the 9th century as a mother parish in the course of the Christianization of the Saxon Lerigau . Until the 18th century Krapendorf seat was a large parish , most recently in office Cloppenburg of low pin Munster that the peasantry Ambühren , Bethen , Bühren, Garrel , Kneheim , Lankum, Lüsche , Nutteln, Resthausen , Schwertheim, Sevelten , Stalförden, Stapelfeld , Tegel Rieden , Vahren , Varrelbusch and Warnstedt included.
On the occasion of a border adjustment between the offices of Cloppenburg and Friesoythe , the Petersfeld colony came to the office of Cloppenburg and thus to the parish of Krapendorf in 1824.
The unusual original size of the parish can be explained by the relatively low population density of the area up to the 18th century. a. The result was that it was not until the 19th century that new churches were built in the outskirts of Krapendorf to a significant extent. So stayed z. For example, the residents of Kneheim did not have to go to the church in Krapendorf until 1801, when the Episcopal Vicariate General in Münster approved the construction of a chapel in Kneheim for 250 believers at the time.
Spots and rural community
Until 1855, Krapendorf was an independent patch directly adjacent to the city of Cloppenburg with an attached rural community. In that year, the area was separated from the associated rural community and united with the town of Cloppenburg, which was founded around 1400 and which was elevated to a town in 1435. The city that emerged from the merger in 1855 still bears the name Cloppenburg today, and the political municipality surrounding it kept the name Krapendorf in 1855.
Already in 1856 Sevelten were added to the municipality of Cappeln (Oldenburg) and Lüsche to the municipality of Vestrup in the Vechta office . In 1872 the municipality of Garrel was founded. The former Krapendorf district of Varrelbusch also belongs to it. In 1933 Resthausen and Stalförden came to the community of Molbergen , Warnstedt, Nutteln and Tegelrieden to the community of Cappeln and Kneheim to the community of Lastrup . The other localities of the old parish Krapendorf were incorporated into the city of Cloppenburg. When the municipality of Krapendorf was dissolved, the village community of Hoheging-Kellerhöhe-Bürgermoor was divided between the city of Cloppenburg and the municipalities of Emstek and Garrel.
Sights that arose during the time of Krapendorf's independence
The Catholic St. Andreas Church in Cloppenburg dates from the 18th century. In 1855, at the time of the unification of Krapendorf with Cloppenburg, it was on the edge of the new town of Cloppenburg because of the separation of the rural community of Krapendorf.
