Kreszentia bumblebee
Kreszentia Hummel (born January 31, 1907 in Arberg ; † August 21, 2002 ) was a German farmer and later parsonage . She has been recognized as Righteous Among the Nations since 2017 .
Life
In the 1940s, Hummel passed ten-year-old Charlotte Knobloch , née Neuland, as her own daughter and hid it from the Nazis 'persecution of Jews on her parents' farm in Arberg , south of Herrieden in Franconia, during World War II . Knobloch survived the Shoah and is now known through various offices for the Jewish communities in Europe. Kreszentia Hummel saved her life through behavior that was quite risky for herself. In 2017, fifteen years after her death, Ms. Hummel was honored in Munich for her selfless act. At a ceremony in the Jewish community center in Munich , she was honored as “Righteous Among the Nations” by the Yad Vashem memorial . Her nephew Johann Graf received the certificate.
She lived in the village with her parents and was in Nuremberg , a former domestic workers of the brother of Charlotte's father Fritz Neuland in Munich. From then on, the strictly Catholic and unmarried Kreszentia Hummel passed the girl off as her own child, i.e. an illegitimate child who, in addition to the expected penal consequences, was considered a personal disgrace and one for the family as a whole. She and her father only initiated the local pastor of the then Catholic parish into the child's situation. Fortunately, father and daughter were reunited in 1945.
In addition to Charlotte Knobloch, the Bavarian Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann and the Israeli ambassador to Germany, Jeremy Issacharoff , took part in the event to mark her honor in Munich as the bearers of the honor. The honorary title is awarded by the State of Israel to non-Jews who saved the lives of Jews during the Nazi dictatorship ( Judenretter ). 26,500 people worldwide wear it; 601 of them are German.
Kreszentia Hummel later became the housekeeper of her brother, Pastor Josef Hummel, and lived with him in Huisheim from 1951 to 1969 .
