The name Kriescht is traced back to a knight named Crezislaus who lived there in the 12th century. Around 1354 Krissewis belonged to the Uchtenhagen family of Sonnenburg . In 1410, Margrave Jobst left the village of Kresuz to the Lebus diocese . In 1427 the village of Krisitz and Sonnenburg changed to the Order of St. John .

The Heinrich Canal was opened near Kriescht in 1772 . It was intended to accelerate the flow of water in the Warta during floods. In 1836/1840 the Wissmann Canal was built with the same goal.
