Kris Newbury (born February 19, 1982 in Brampton , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Fischtown Pinguins in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Kris Newbury began his career as a hockey player in the Ontario Hockey League , in which he was initially active from 1998 to 2000 for the Belleville Bulls and then from 2000 to 2003 for the Sarnia Sting . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the fifth round as a total of 139th player by the San Jose Sharks , for which he however never played. In the summer of 2003, the attacker was added to the roster of Toronto's farm team from the American Hockey League , the St. John's Maple Leafs , for which he was on the ice for the following two seasons. From the 2005/06 season Newbury was active for the new AHL farm team of the Maple Leafs, the Toronto Marlies . From the 2006/07 season, the Canadian also came to some appearances in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs .
In the following years Newbury played in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins , Hartford Wolf Pack , Connecticut Whale and Adirondack Phantoms and only made a few appearances per season in the corresponding NHL partner teams ( Detroit Red Wings , New York Rangers , Philadelphia Flyers ) . After the Flyers had awarded him to the Hershey Bears in March 2014 , he switched permanently to their NHL partner, the Washington Capitals, in July 2014 . These use him, however, exclusively with the Bears in the AHL, from which he moved within the league to the newly founded Ontario Reign in July 2015 .
For the 2017/18 season, the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven signed Kris Newbury from the German ice hockey league .
