The Critique Network - Journal for Critical Theory of Society is an online publication for social science contributions in the sense of a critical social theory. The main topics include critical theory , anti-Semitism , Islamism and right-wing extremism as well as university policy .

Political orientation

The Critique Network sees itself as a continuation of the critical theory of the 1930s ( Horkheimer , Adorno , Herbert Marcuse , Benjamin , Löwenthal et al.) And thus as a counterweight to both positivist social science and a discourse of postmodernism in which the socially critical approach is resolved by unspecific contradictions becomes. In this multi-layered problem area, the Critique Network collects contributions on all classic sub-areas of critical theory.

Content

The Critique Network brings together articles on all classic areas of critical theory of society. It combines theoretical and practical essays (Part I: Scientific Discussions; Part II: Political Interventions ) with reviews and guest articles from other journals (e.g. also with reprints of articles from the Zeitschrift für Sozialforschung ).

Discussion about synagogue construction in Bielefeld

In the course of the conversion of a Protestant church building that is no longer needed into the Beit Tikwa synagogue (Bielefeld) , Christian parishioners took part in a protest and occupied the building in 2007. The criticism network raised the allegation of anti-Judaist resentment and was in turn criticized for it.

Debate on Werner Haverbeck's National Socialist past

In an article in the criticism network in 2008, reference was made to the National Socialist past of the university lecturer Werner Haverbeck . The Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences was criticized in the article for the fact that Haverbeck was allowed to teach at the University of Applied Sciences in the 1970s despite his past. The accusation received a lot of attention in the national press and led to unsuccessful disciplinary proceedings by the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences against the publisher of the criticism network .

Confrontation with the Islamic religious community

Based on an article critical of Islam in the Critique Network from 2010, which referred to the Freudian concept of religion as a "collective obsessional neurosis" in relation to Islam , the President of the Islamic Religious Community in Berlin , Abdurrahim Vural, called in a press release for the publisher to be punished of the criticism network .
