Kruckenberg is a village and part of the Wiesent community in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg in Eastern Bavaria .

The place is known for its viticulture, which has been practiced here since Roman times. An altar stone of the Roman god Liber found in Kruckenberg points to this fact.

Geography and transport links

The place is west of the core town Wiesent on the state road St 2125 . The Danube flows not far to the south. The closest town is Wörth an der Donau , about five kilometers to the east.

history

A first settlement near Kruckenberg can already be proven by early historical finds.

The history of Kruckenberg is closely linked to viticulture, which was worthwhile up to the 16th century, and thus the introduction of beer in this region. In old documents, the vineyards in Chruchunperk , the oldest spelling of the name of the place, appear in deeds of donation from Duke Theodo to the St. Peter monastery in Salzburg.

The place belonged to the parish of Wörth for a long time and was changed to the parish of Wiesent in 1875. Due to this fact, Kruckenberg, unlike Wiesent, avoided the change of denomination during the Reformation, since Wörth was Bavarian territory.

However, the local children have always attended school in Wiesent.

From 1945 to 1948 the former community was briefly incorporated into Wiesent by the US military government, after which it was independent again. On January 1, 1972, it was incorporated with all districts to Wiesent. It consisted of the districts of Kruckenberg and Lehmhof .

Culture and sights

In the list of architectural monuments in Wiesent , two architectural monuments are listed for Kruckenberg :

In 1842, the residents of Kruckenberg first approached the pastor in Wiesenter for permission to build a field chapel. The chapel was approved and two years later the wooden building was rebuilt from stones and the ordinariate was given permission for the celebration . After initially negative news, approval was obtained in 1846. In 1934 a new bell was donated by a citizen; the old bell from 1917 was removed.

In the church there is an altar dedicated to Saint Matthew, some figures, two of which were carved by a pastor from Wiesenter, and an oil painting that shows the Last Supper.

societies

The Kruckenberg volunteer fire brigade has existed in the village since 1889 .

Viticulture

Wine bar in Kruckenberg on the wine route

The Baierwein , which was mentioned in a document as early as the 8th century, thrives in the vineyards in Kruckenberg ; numerous wine bars can be found here. According to an old document, viticulture was introduced in the Wiesent community around the year 1100. The village is located in the second smallest wine-growing area in Germany (smallest wine-growing area in Bavaria) on the wine route, which is the shortest wine route in Germany with a length of 20 kilometers.
