Krzysztof Pomian (2009)

Krzysztof Pomian (born January 25, 1934 in Warsaw ) is a French - Polish philosopher , historian and author .

Life

Pomian studied from 1952 to 1957 at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Warsaw . There he received his doctorate in 1965 and completed his habilitation in 1968. In 1966 he was expelled from the communist Polish United Workers' Party (PZPR) because he took positions critical of the regime. In 1973 he went into exile in France.

Pomian's career in Western Europe was based on his work at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS). He also taught, for example, at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), at the École du Louvre and the University of Geneva . His publications were in Polish and from 1973 mainly in French. He advises various historical magazines and advises the Museum of World War II in Gdansk, which is currently under construction . Since 2001 he has been the scientific director of the Musée de l'Europe in Brussels.

Pomian is professor emeritus at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń , an external member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Humanities (PAU) in Krakow , a member of the Ateneo Veneto in Venice and the Accademia Clementina in Bologna .

• 1993: Commander of the Polish order Polonia Restituta and since 2012 Commander with a star of the same order.
• 2003: Honorary doctorate from Marie Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin , Poland
• 2005: Commander of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres .
• 2011: Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor .
