Krzysztof Włodarczyk (born September 19, 1981 in Warsaw ) is a Polish professional boxer and former WBC world cruiserweight champion.

amateur

Włodarczyk only had a relatively short amateur career. He became Polish Vice-Champion of Cadets in 1996 and won the bronze medal at the 1997 European Cadet Championships in Bitola .

Professional career

In June 2000 he turned professional at the age of 18. By 2001 Włodarczyk won all of his eleven development fights, eight of them prematurely. In December 2001 he beat the Italian Vincenzo Rossitto (20-0), who had also been undefeated until then, by tKo and thus became Intercontinental Champion of the IBF . By the beginning of 2003, eight more victories followed, including one against the Belgian Ismail Abdoul (18-1). On April 26, 2003 he suffered his first defeat in Schwerin when his Russian opponent Pawel Melkomian (13-0) gave up the fight after the fourth round due to an unintentional headbutt by the Pole. Then the scores on which the Russian was in the lead were evaluated.

After ten more victories against rather insignificant names, he won the EBU's EU championship in April 2005 by knocking out Rüdiger May (40-3) in the tenth round . Another five wins followed, before he defeated the American Steve Cunningham (19-0) on November 25, 2006 in Warsaw in the fight for the IBF World Championship by just on points. He had convinced with his style of attack in the infight, while Cunningham tried to use his range advantages. But just six months later he lost the title in a direct rematch in Katowice, Poland, just on points to Cunningham. The decisive factor for this was not least Włodarczyk's knockdown in the fourth round.

After four successive build-up wins, he boxed on May 16, 2009 in Rome for the WBC World Championship against Giacobbe Fragomeni (26-2), but had to be content with a draw. On May 15, 2010, however, he defeated Fragomeni in the rematch by tKo in the eighth round and thus captured his second world title in cruiserweight. He denied his first title defense in September of the same year unanimously on points against the American Jason Robinson (19-5). In April 2011 he defended the title just on points against Francisco Palacios (20-0) from Puerto Rico.

On November 30, 2011 he defeated the Australian Danny Green (31-4) by tKo in the eleventh round. In September 2012 he won the rematch against Francisco Palacios this time by unanimous decision. In June 2013 he faced the undefeated Russian Rachim Tschachkijew (16-0) in his fifth title defense , was down against him in the third round, but was also able to send his opponent to the ground in rounds 6, 7 and 8. The battle verdict after the eighth round was tKo victory for Włodarczyk.

On December 6, 2013 he boxed against Fragomeni for the third time, had him in the fourth round on the ground and won by dropping out in round 6. In September 2014 he was defeated in Moscow on points against Grigori Drosd (38-1).

After not fighting a fight in 2015, he defeated Valeri Brudow (42-7), Kai Kurzawa (37-4) and Leon Harth (14-1) in 2016.

In May 2017, he beat the previously undefeated Noel Gevor (22-0) on points in an IBF title eliminator . He then boxed for the IBF world title against Murat Gassijew (24-0) in October 2017 , but lost the fight at the Prudential Center in New Jersey by knockout in the third round. The fight was also part of the World Boxing Super Series tournament .
