The Kuhlenberg is 743.9 m above sea level. NN high mountain in the Rothaar Mountains in the Hochsauerlandkreis , North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).
location
The mountain is located about 1 km southeast of Silbach and 4 km northeast of Winterberg . The Neger flows on its west side and the small Vossmecke , a tributary of the Ruhr in the 48.8 hectare "In der Strei" nature reserve, rises to the east of the mountain summit . 30 hectares of this nature reserve form the FFH area of the same name, in which many rare plants on the Red List occur. This hillside moor has been under nature protection with changing demarcations since 1957. Some of the areas in the nature reserve, in particular the moor areas, belong to the Hochsauerlandkreis and are managed extensively by the Biological Station in the Hochsauerlandkreis according to the specifications of the Hochsauerlandkreis’s cultural landscape maintenance program.
The Silbach diabase quarry is located on the western slope. Often the mountain with the Vorderen Kuhlenberg is summarized as Kuhlenberg. On the mountain there is mainly spruce forest, which was severely affected by Kyrill .
Trail
The Kuhlenberg trail, a total of 20 km long trail network, runs over the Kuhlenberg. Renners Hütte , a cross-country ski rental with a small dining room, is located near the B480 roundabout . In addition, the route of the dog sled race, which took place until 2010, ran over the trail.
