Culture Mile (Bremen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kulturmeile is the name of a street section in the Bremen districts of Altstadt and Ostertor . It is roughly congruent with the easternmost section of the street Am Wall and extends for almost 300 meters from the eastern end of the old town through the ramparts to Goetheplatz . The unofficial naming is based on the high structural density of cultural institutions on this axis. From west to east these are:

  1. Central library of the Bremen City Library in the Wall Forum
  2. Kunsthalle Bremen
  3. Gerhard Marcks House
  4. Wilhelm Wagenfeld House
  5. Documentation center prison Ostertorwache
  6. Villa Ichon
  7. Theater Bremen

Due to its location, the culture mile acts as a link between the old town on the one hand and the alternative, multicultural streets of the "quarter" on the other. It is also part of the routing of the annual Bremen Samba Carnival Parade as well as the location of some stages of the street circus festival La Strada and is also used for the ViertelFest . It is integrated into the local public transport network via tram lines 2 and 3 as well as bus line 35 with its common stop Theater am Goetheplatz . Run by the BrePark GmbH and the Osterdeich be propelled underground Ostertor / cultural mile is for the individual traffic open.
