Life

Kurt Früh was born in St. Gallen in 1915 as the son of a postal worker and moved with his family to Zurich in 1926. He was already involved in theater performances as a student. After studying language and music at the University of Zurich , he went to the Zürcher Volksbühne in 1933. Early on he worked there as an actor, author, director and most recently as a director. He also worked for the cabarets Cornichon , Bärentatze and Die Pfeffermühle . From 1938 he began to shoot short and advertising films for Central Film Zurich . In 1964 he directed a 30-minute industrial film for Condor Films commissioned by General Motors .

In 1949 he became assistant director under Leopold Lindtberg . With Polizischt Wäckerli , his first full-length feature film was released in the cinemas in 1955, with his characteristic, detailed representation. This was followed by the melodramatic film Oberstadtgass and the popular success Bäckerei Zürrer . He was then given the opportunity to work with German cinema star Heinz Rühmann as the main actor, but The Man Who Couldn't Say No , created in Copenhagen in 1958 , was only a mediocre success.

After other films such as Behind the Seven Gleisen , Café Odeon and Im Parterre links , he was head of the theater department of Swiss television from 1964 to 1967 and teacher of the film class at the Kunstgewerbemuseum Zurich from 1967 to 1969 . With Walo Lüönd in the role of Dällebach Kari , he made a comeback as a cinema director in early 1970. In 1972 he made his last film, Der Fall .

Kurt Früh was married to the actress Eva Langraf (1919–2009); His two daughters Katja Früh (* 1953) and Jessica Früh (* 1956) came from this marriage . He died in Boswil in 1979. Around 20 years later he was buried in an honorary grave in the Fluntern cemetery in Zurich. In 2005 the Kurt-Früh-Weg in Zurich-Seebach was named after him.
