Kurt Oppler

Kurt Oppler (born November 24, 1902 in Breslau ; † April 29, 1981 in Baden-Baden ) was a German diplomat .

biography

After graduating from high school , Oppler first became a textile merchant and did not study law in Breslau until 1927 . Since 1926 was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). In 1931 he switched to the Socialist Workers' Party of Germany (SAPD) and became chairman of the SAPD's socialist student association. After graduating as Dr. iur. he worked as a lawyer and was admitted to the bar at the International Court of Arbitration for Upper Silesia in Katowice . In 1937 Oppler was banned from practicing law. In 1938 he left Germany and emigrated to the Netherlands and in 1940 to Belgium.

After the Second World War he returned to Germany in 1946 and was appointed Ministerialdirektor in the Hessian Ministry of Justice . In the following year he was appointed head of the personnel office for the administration of the United Economic Area , the so-called Bizone.

In 1952 he entered the diplomatic service and was first envoy to Iceland until 1956 . He then succeeded Georg von Broich-Oppert as ambassador in Norway , then in 1959 as successor to Carl Friedrich Ophüls ambassador in Belgium and finally in 1963 as successor to Herbert Siegfried, ambassador in Canada . In 1967 he retired .
