Kurt Rümmler

Kurt Rümmler (born November 19, 1911 in Taura ; † December 31, 1958 ) was head of the Leipzig district administration of the Ministry for State Security (MfS).

Life

The son of a baker learned the trade of a machinist after attending primary school . In 1931 he joined the Communist Party of Germany . He was imprisoned from 1935 to 1936 on charges of “preparing for high treason ”. From 1943 to 1945 he served in the Wehrmacht and from 1945 to 1947 was a Soviet prisoner of war.

After returning to Saxony , he joined the German People's Police and worked as a personnel manager in the Rochlitz People's Police District Office. In 1950 he went to the MfS and became head of the district office for state security in Rochlitz . The following year he moved to the Oelsnitz / Vogtl district office as head . and in 1952 in the district city of Leipzig. After he had headed the district office there, he became head of the Leipzig district administration in 1955. He held this position until his death on New Year's Eve 1958. At the same time he was a member of the SED district leadership in Leipzig. He last held the military rank of colonel since 1953 . In 1958 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

Rümmler's grave is in the "Grove of Honor of the Socialists" in the Leipzig South Cemetery .
