Kurt Schulz (born June 2, 1937 ) is a former German soccer player .

Player career

Kurt "Kutti" Schulz began his playing career in 1955 with Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin , which had just recently been promoted to the top division in Berlin and immediately reached fifth place in 1955/56 . In the following year , blue-white finished fifth in the table. In 1957/58 Schulz 'club fell back to eighth place, before 1958/59 repeated fifth place. After 31 hits in four years, Kurt Schulz went to league rivals and reigning Berlin champions Tasmania Berlin for the 1959/60 season . With the Tasmanians, the attacker immediately won the title with one point each over Hertha BSC and Spandauer SV . This allowed the club to take part in the final round of the German championship in 1960 , where they placed third behind 1. FC Köln and Werder Bremen in the group stage. Schulz was also unable to make it into the final with his two goals in five missions. In 1960/61 Tasmania missed defending their title behind the Hertha team.

Kurt Schulz then left West Berlin and signed a contract with Wuppertaler SV , who played in the II West Division . At the end of the season the WSV rose to second place in the Oberliga West together with Bayer 04 Leverkusen . Schulz was part of the team there and also scored seven goals. At the end of the 1962/63 season , however, as the penultimate , the Schwebebahn -Stadters clearly missed qualifying for the newly founded Bundesliga .

Kurt Schulz then moved to Switzerland for one season for FC Luzern , with whom he finished 8th in the National League A, tied with FC Chiasso .

For the 1964/65 Bundesliga season Kurt Schulz was brought to Hertha BSC at the instigation of coach Josef Schneider . Schulz made a good start there by securing the away win against defending champion 1. FC Köln with his goal in the 89th minute with his goal to make it 3-2. Under Schneider he remained a regular player, even if Schulz and his teammates could no longer build on the good start of the season. When Gerhard Schulte was hired as the new coach at Hertha in March 1965 , Schulz temporarily lost his regular place, but on his return to the starting line-up on matchday 28, he scored a 1-0 away win in the final phase when he returned to the starting line-up with direct competitors for relegation Karlsruher SC . Schulz should also be in the starting line-up on the following matchday and fulfilled expectations when he scored the 1-1 draw at Hannover 96 in the 89th minute and thus Hertha scored one matchday before the end of the season to keep the league. Kurt Schulz scored seven goals in 22 appearances, making him the most successful blue and white goalscorer behind Michael Krampitz , who scored eight. The joy of the Berliners did not last long, however, as the club was punished with forced relegation for illegally paid hand money to its players. After relegation, Hertha had to compete in the Regionalliga Berlin, which they clearly dominated in the 1965/66 season . In thirty games, 29 wins, only lost against Spandauer SV. Kurt Schulz scored 26 goals in 22 appearances. However, behind Hans Tylinski from Tennis Borussia , who scored 36 goals, and teammate Helmut Faeder (32 goals), he was only the third most accurate player in the league. In the promotion games , Hertha reached third place behind Fortuna Düsseldorf and FK Pirmasens and thus missed a direct return to the upper house of football. Also in 1966/67 Schulz dominated the regional league with his club, with twelve goals behind Krampitz and Werner Ipta as the third best scorer at Hertha. But also in that season the opponents in the promotion round were a size too big for Hertha and they finished fifth and last in the group. In total, Schulz scored 38 goals in his two regional league seasons for Hertha, with only Faeder (43 goals), Krampitz (42) and Hans-Joachim Altendorff (41) placed in front of him in the club's regional league goalscorer list.

In 1967 Kurt Schulz returned to his first club, Blau-Weiß 90, in the Berlin Regionalliga. The first season he finished with his club in 8th place in the table. In 1969 , too , blue and white jumped out into the middle of the field. In the 1969/70 season they played with the top for a long time, but ultimately had to be content with fourth place. After this season, Kurt Schulz ended his playing career.
