On Christmas Day 1960, he made his debut at the age of 18 in the first team of FC Schalke 04, which won the league game against Hamborn 07 in the Glückaufkampfbahn 3-1.

Under coach Georg Gawliczek , he advanced as an attacking midfielder to the team's playmaker . In the 1961/62 season he reached the finals for the German championship and the DFB Cup semi-finals with FC Schalke 04 .

FC Bayern Munich / Grasshopper Club Zurich

After three seasons with FC Schalke 04 in which he scored 16 goals in 49 league games, he changed - due professionally - for the season 1963/64 for FC Bayern Munich , for which he 28 games in the Regionalliga Süd completed and scored seven goals. Despite a serious injury that would actually have made him disabled, he then moved to the Grasshopper Club Zurich . Here he played alongside top scorer Rolf Blättler and scored ten goals in the 1965 Swiss football championship . With the Grasshoppers Zurich he finished fourth in the championship in the following season as seventh.

Hertha BSC / Tasmania Berlin

For the 1966/67 season Ipta moved to the Berlin regional league team Hertha BSC , with whom he was twice champion and in 1968 rose to the Bundesliga . Even in the elite class he remained a regular player in his first season with 25 appearances. He scored his first of six Bundesliga goals on September 21, 1968 (7th matchday) in a 2-2 draw in the away game against Borussia Dortmund with a free kick to make it 1-1 in the 31st minute. In the 1969/70 season he made 13 appearances to achieve third place in the table and on September 26, 1969 (6th matchday) he also played the Bundesliga game, which he and his team played in the home game against 1. FC Köln won 1-0. He was also used internationally for Hertha BSC when he took part in the trade fair trophy , in which he and the team made it to the quarter-finals . For Hertha BSC he played 44 regional league games (24 goals) and 38 Bundesliga games (6 goals).

In the summer of 1970 Ipta returned to the Regionalliga Berlin and won the championship with Tasmania Berlin at the end of the season . At the end of the following season , he ended his active career.

In the last group game on April 2 (again in Sofia) he was the decisive goal scorer in the 1-0 win against the Netherlands. Since then he has been a pensioner and lived only a few minutes away from the Berlin Olympic Stadium . It was not until January 2008 that he became a member of Hertha BSC.
