Kurt Starke (sexologist)

Kurt Starke (born May 13, 1938 in Königshain ) is a German sexologist , youth researcher , sociologist and author .

Life

Starke graduated from high school in Rochlitz in 1956 . From 1958 to 1962 he studied at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig and in 1965 received his Dr. rer. pole. From 1967 he worked and from 1972 to 1990 he was head of the Central Institute for Youth Research (ZIJ) Leipzig. In 1977 he got his Dr. sc. pol. before receiving a professorship in Leipzig in 1981.

In the fall of 1972, Starke began a study entitled “Partner 72”, which developed into the basic study for the partner studies of the ZIJ. As head of the student research department at the ZIJ, he was responsible for representative cross-sectional studies of students at universities and technical colleges in the GDR from 1969. These studies were designed as interval studies (long-term panel studies ) and had, among other things, the task of tracking how students with children compared to students without children cope with their studies. Since the mid-1990s, Starke has been working as a freelancer in sex research and as a journalist. In March 2010 his expertise pornography and youth - youth and pornography , which he produced on behalf of Huch Medien GmbH, was published. According to the expertise, there is no scientific evidence that simple pornography can harm adolescents . He also suggested that banning simple pornography could cause guilty feelings among teenagers who consumed porn. On the basis of the expertise, Huch reiterated the demand for the ban on pornography to be lifted.
