Kurt Vittinghoff

Kurt Vittinghoff (born January 9, 1928 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † August 15, 2011 in Bad Kreuznach ) was a trade unionist and politician of the SPD and MEP .

Life

After his childhood in the Westerwald , Vittinghoff attended a commercial school in Giessen . Due to the events of the war, he was forced to learn the trade of a joiner and cabinet maker .

In October 1950 he moved to Bad Kreuznach and married the following year. Vittinghoff worked in the Rohde leather works , in the Feick winery and then at HOMBAK machine and plant construction .

At Hombak GmbH, Vittinghoff was elected to the works council in 1959, which marked the beginning of his trade union career. In 1963 he was employed by IG Metall and was responsible for the merger of the administrative offices in Bad Kreuznach and Idar-Oberstein before he became the first authorized representative of the IG Metall administrative office in Kreuznach in 1964.

In 1965 Vittinghoff joined the SPD and was elected to the district council. He was the Rhineland-Palatinate state chairman of the working group for employee issues in the SPD. After the European elections in 1984 he became a member of the European Parliament for the SPD / SPE for two legislative periods.
