The Kyrillpfad Kastellaun (also spelled Kyrill -pfad Kastellaun ) is an educational trail that leads through a wind throw area southeast of the town of Kastellaun in the Hunsrück .

history

The approximately 830  m long trail opens up a 1.5  ha large spruce stand , which by the hurricane Kyrill was completely destroyed on 18 January of 2007. The nature trail was set up by the town of Kastellaun as the forest owner, together with the local forestry office Kastellaun ( Landesforsten Rheinland-Pfalz ) , as an object for viewing and learning to inform the interested public about the extent and consequences of storm damage in forest areas and about the "naturally new emerging forest ”and the work of foresters .

The joint project came about at the suggestion of the mayor of Kastellaun at the time, Fritz Frey, and was based on the Lothar path in the Black Forest , which is looked after by the nature conservation center Ruhestein . The conception and implementation of the Kyrill path was carried out by the Kastellaun Forestry Office, with advice from the Ruhestein Nature Conservation Center. The opening took place in May 2008, by the end of the opening year the Kyrillpfad had already been visited by around 20,000 visitors.

Access to the “Storm Throwing Adventure Trail” on the south-eastern outskirts of Kastellaun is possible at any time, and entry is free. The Kastellaun Forestry Office also offers guided tours; the educational support for the nature trail is provided by the district forester and co-creator of the trail, Ralf Lieschied.
