László Réczi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

László Réczi (born July 14, 1947 in Kiskunfélegyháza ) is a former Hungarian wrestler . He was world champion in 1977 and bronze medalist at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Greco-Roman style featherweight.

Career

László Réczi began wrestling as a teenager in his hometown of Kiskunfélegyháza. Due to his talent, he soon moved to the Egri Vasas Birkózó Club (wrestling club "Vasas" Eger ), where there was a wrestling center that guaranteed good training conditions and good coaches. László still needed a few years before he reached the top Hungarian class in the Greco-Roman style. He won his first Hungarian featherweight championship in 1971. In the same year he was also used for the first time at an international championship, the World Cup in Sofia . László did an excellent job there and after four wins and two defeats he just missed a medal in 4th place.

The same happened to him at the European Championships in Helsinki in 1973 , where he celebrated a remarkable victory over the Soviet wrestler Nelson Dawidjan , but only came back to 4th place after a defeat against Kazimierz Lipień from Poland . At the World Championships in Tehran that year , Réczi then won his first medal, because he took 3rd place there.

In 1974 he achieved the same results at the international championships as in 1973. First he was fourth winner again at the European championships in Madrid and then he again won a bronze medal in the featherweight division at the world championships in Katowice . At these championships it was always up to Kazimierz Lipień that László did not get any further, because László simply couldn't get past Kazimierz Lipień.

Nevertheless, the reliability with which Réczi also contested the following championships was admirable. He always ended up in the front field. He won bronze medals at the 1975 World Championships in Minsk , the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and the 1977 European Championships in Bursa . In these three events he won over the Olympic and world champions Stylianos Migiakis from Greece , Georgi Markow from Bulgaria and Nelson Dawidjan. Against Kazimierz Lipień, however, he lost twice again in these years.

The year 1977 was the high point in Lászlo Reczi's career. After the aforementioned bronze medal in Bursa, he finally won the world championship title at the featherweight championship in Gothenburg this autumn . He also celebrated a victory over Kazimierz Lipień.

In 1978 László had bad luck at the World Cup in Mexico City when he had to retire due to injury after winning two fights.

László then ended his international wrestling career. In Hungary, István Tóth was his successor.
