Lígia Maria Scherer

Lígia Maria Scherer (born October 28, 1951 in Curitiba , Paraná ) is a Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Lígia Maria Scherer is the daughter of Lucy Szabó Scherer and Adalberto Scherer Sobrinho. In 1974 she studied Philology, Portuguese and English at the Universidade Federal do Paraná . In 1978 she completed the Curso de Preparacâo para a Carreira Diplomática of the Rio Branco Institute . A year later she was promoted to third class diplomatic secretary, second class in 1981, and first class in 1988.

From 1979 Scherer was employed in the United Nations Department and was transferred to Rome as second-class legation secretary from 1985 to 1988 and then to Tokyo until 1991 . From 1991 to 1994 she was Deputy Head of the Environment Department. She then served as envoy in Washington, DC from 1994 to 1997 and Tel Aviv from 1997 to 2001 .

In 2001, Scherer completed her diploma thesis on A Questão de Jerusalém: Realidades e. Perspectivas as part of the Curso de Altos Estudios of the Rio Branco Institute. After that she headed from 2001 to 2003, the department Asia and Ozianien II and was then operated as Chargé of Dili , East Timor sent. From 2005 to 2007 she was then envoy to the Brazilian Mission to the European Union in Brussels and then headed the Brazilian office in Ramallah until 2012 . She has been an ambassador in Maputo since August 24, 2012 .
