Arnaldo Carrilho (born June 10, 1937 in Rio de Janeiro , † June 27, 2013 ) was a Brazilian cineast and diplomat .

Life

Carrilho was the son of Margarida da Fonseca Moura Carrilho and Eymard Dantas Carrilho. He was married to Maria Helena Torres Batista, their sons are Bruno, Pedro and Lauro.

In 1961, Carrilho met Arnaldo Jabor on Lauro de Freitas beach while shooting Barravento . In 1962 he completed the Curso Preparatório à Carreira Diplomática. On November 7th of the same year he was appointed Secretary of the Third Class and assigned to the Divisâo Cultural , where he devoted himself to Cinema Novo . He was a member of the committee that selected the films for the international film festivals from 1962 to 1964. He was also responsible for film cooperation agreements with Spain, France, Italy and the Federal Republic of Germany. After the Operação Brother Sam he had an exequatur as consul in Rome and in 1965 he was the producer of Arnaldo Jabor's documentary O Circo. In 1969 he met Glauber Rocha during the Venice International Film Festival . This informed him of his assessment of the torture regime after the kidnapping of Charles Burke Elbrick and attributed the attractiveness of Carlos Marighella to his green iris . In March 2001 he became director of RioFilme . From 2001 to 2003 he was the coordinator of Arne Sucksdorff's mission in Brazil. In 2003 he produced Glauber o Films, Labirinto do Brasil . He published in Jornal do Brasil and Folha de S. Paulo .

He served in the foreign service for 47 years, 37 of them outside of Brazil, twelve in the Islamic world, and ten in Asia. In the diplomatic missions abroad in Jeddah , Berlin , Bissau , Praia and Pyongyang , he was the first leader to hold ambassadorial status. In 1965 he was the third class diplomatic secretary in Algiers and was awarded the Lauro Müller Medalha . In 1967 he was the second-class delegation secretary in Warsaw . In 1972 Fernando Bernabé Agüero Rocha accepted him into the Order Nacional Miguel Larreynaga and he led the transformation of the historic Itamaraty Palace in Rio de Janeiro into a branch office. In 1973 he was chargé d'affaires in Jeddah and Berlin, was awarded the Medalha do Mérito Santos-Dumont and on January 1, 1973 he was appointed Secretary of the First Class. In 1974 he was first-class delegation secretary at the consulate in Santa Cruz de la Sierra , Bolivia, and headed the monument protection department and an extension for the Itamaraty. On April 16, 1975 he was appointed Legation Councilor.

Guinea-Bissau's independence was proclaimed on September 24, 1973, and on July 5, 1975 Cape Verde gained independence from the government in Lisbon. Carrilho negotiated with the respective governments to establish diplomatic relations with the government of Ernesto Geisel .

In 1976 he was Chargé d'affaires at the Holy See and the sovereign Order of Malta , where he was appointed Legation Councilor on January 1, 1976 in recognition of his achievements. In 1979, as part of the Curso de Alto Estudios, he presented the study: O Vaticano ea Igreja pós-conciliar no Brasil - Libertação Humana e Segurança Nacional .

In 1979 he was appointed Counselor in Rabat , where he was Chargé d'Affaires in 1980 and 1981 and in 1981 he headed the Brazilian delegation to the 15th session of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization . In 1984 he was Counselor in Lima . In 1986 he was chargé d'affaires in Algiers . In 1990 he was Chargé d'affaires in Beirut , where he was appointed second class envoy on December 18, 1990 in recognition of his services. On August 26, 1991 he received an exequatur as consul general in Hong Kong with the area of Macau and the states and territories of Micronesia . In 1994 he was awarded the Grande Medalha da Inconfidência , Minas Gerais . On July 30, 1996, he was appointed ambassador to Bangkok , and Phnom Penh and Yangon .

In 2003 he had exequatur as consul general in Sydney . On May 10, 2005, he was Ambassador Extraordinary to the Cúpula América do Sul - Países Árabes in Brasília . In 2006 he was ambassador to Ramallah . From March 18, 2009 to January 12, 2012 he was ambassador to Pyongyang .
