Löhma is a district of the town of Leutenberg in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

location

Löhma lies in the north of the city on a plateau above the Sormitz - and the Saale valley at a height of 520 m in a depression.

history

The place was probably founded by Sorbian settlers. The settlement was first mentioned in a document as Lemane in 1074. At that time, the place belonged to the Benedictine monastery Saalfeld and was one of the first settlement islands in this area. From around 1300 a manor was built here, which served as the residence of a minor nobleman. In 1434 the manor of Bernhard von Könitz at Eichigt Castle became the property of the von Beulwitz family . Over the years the village was converted into a manor village. The last farmer to own land left the hamlet around 1850. Around 1860 60 people from six different families lived in Löhma. 23 were employed in the manor. The estate also had a brewery and a distillery. In the 19th century Löhma was incorporated into Munschwitz . Until 1918 the place belonged to the people mountain exclave of the supremacy of the county or the principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

From 1956 to 1963 the upper basin of the Hohenwarte II pumped storage plant was built in the corridor of the community . In 1997 Löhma was incorporated together with Munschwitz in Leutenberg.
