ǃNamiǂNûs (until August 8, 2013 Lüderitz ) is a constituency in the Namibian region of ǁKaras . It surrounds the city of Lüderitz , after which it was originally named.
With an area of 48,225 square kilometers and 13,859 inhabitants (2011), ǃNamiǂNûs is one of the largest, but also the most sparsely populated constituencies in Namibia . The area essentially forms the entire western part of the ǁKaras region .
In the west, the constituency borders on the South Atlantic , which is relatively cool here due to the Benguela Current, and therefore consists largely of desert , which explains the low population density. The circle includes the following landscapes:
- the restricted diamond area with Klinghardt mountains and isolated mountain ranges such as the Dikwillem
- the entire southern part of the Namib-Naukluft National Park
- the ghost town of Kolmanskop .
In Khoekhoegowab , ǃNamiǂNûs means embrace . The name is said to go back to the first inhabitants of the area, the ǃAman , a subgroup of the Nama .
