history

Ventilation (= "To airy place / chapel") is possibly a new settlement in place of the abandoned Leerstetten, which, according to a document from 1355, was between Eichstätt, Wintershof , Preith and (Ober-) Wimpasing . The inn "Zur Lüften", built in 1874 by the landlord Peter Pfefferle, is now run as a pizzeria, although the current building was rebuilt by Johann Maria Geyer in 1925, according to the inscription panel; The Geyer family has owned the “Zur Lüften” inn since 1899. The “Historisches Blätter für Stadt und Landkreis Eichstätt” comment on this: “ At that time, the Eichstätt – Titting district road still led up steeply from the Buchtal to the air, interrupted by many transverse channels. Uphill was only slightly loaded, downhill, the rubbing obstacle hot from braking. In summer there was unbearable heat in the valley, from which humans and animals suffered. Thus, the 'Lüften' became a well-visited place to rest after overcoming the dangerous mountain road. ”The property was built half on Wintershofer, half on Preither parish land and was assigned to the Preith community on January 14, 1886 with the official name“ Zur Lüften ”. In 1983, Lüften was still a full-time agricultural business that was rededicated in 1995 to a riding stables. In 1961 there was one residential building, in 1987 there were two residential buildings.

Ventilation was part of the Preith community . The community of Preith was dissolved on May 1st, 1978, Lüften came to the city of Eichstätt.

Ventilated chapel

The "ventilation chapel" was built in 1714 by Balthasar Schiffer. There are two medieval cross stones and a crucifix, the "High Cross", which was erected according to the base inscription in 1859 and last renovated in 2007. The interior of the chapel was painted in 1921 by Professor Oskar Seidl (1854–1948) with six saints.

Transport links

Ventilation can be reached from the west via the district road EI 49 and from the south-east and from the north via the state road 2225. The former connection road leading from Eichstätt over the Buchtal to Lüften is still there, but ends in the south of Lüften and joins a footpath.
