The District Court of Konstanz is a court of ordinary jurisdiction , whose jurisdiction includes the districts of seven local courts.

The seat of the court is Konstanz . In Villingen-Schwenningen , the regional court maintains a branch where court hearings are also held. Eleven state notaries' offices and seven local courts belong to the district of the Constance Regional Court:

Donaueschingen , Konstanz , Radolfzell , Singen am Hohentwiel , Stockach , Überlingen and Villingen-Schwenningen .

The district court has around 550,000 inhabitants.

building

The main building of the court is located in the historic Blarer canon court . It was first mentioned in 1767. In 1846 it became the seat of the court and in 1876 the regional court. The Renaissance portal contains a representation of Saint James. The historic main building is located at Richtgasse 15, the annex building at Richtgasse 9 in Konstanz. The two-story flat roof building from 1964 is considered an important example of post-war architecture in Constance.

The court is subordinate to the Higher Regional Court of Karlsruhe .

The Constance Regional Court consists of six civil, nine criminal and three commercial chambers. The 1st and 6th civil chambers are courts of appeal and appeal. The 1st and 3rd criminal chambers are large criminal chambers, the 5th and 6th are small criminal chambers. The 4th criminal chamber acts as a jury. The task of the youth chamber is performed by the 2nd (large youth chamber) and 7th (small youth chamber) criminal chamber. There are currently 33 judges with around 65 other employees working at the regional court.

history

The regional court emerged from the Baden court court, which has resided in Constance since 1836. However, this was not rebuilt, but moved from Meersburg , where it had already existed for over two decades, to Constance.
