German symposium

The German Symposium , a lecture series of around 20 lectures, has been organized by the German Society on the campus of the London School of Economics for 14 years and has had well-known German personalities from culture ( Charlotte Knobloch , Berthold Kohler , Robert Zollitsch ) in recent years. , Politics ( Angela Merkel , Gerhard Schröder , Wolfgang Schäuble , Peer Steinbrück , Ursula von der Leyen ) sport ( Jens Lehmann , Hans-Joachim Watzke ) and economy ( Alexander Dibelius , Jürgen Großmann , August Oetker ) attracted.

The conference, organized by students from the London School of Economics, is one of the most renowned speaker series in London and, according to Wolfgang Ischinger , the former German ambassador in London, plays “a key role in the strategic dialogue between Germany and Great Britain”.

In addition to Federal Minister Peter Ramsauer , the former Federal Minister of Finance Hans Eichel and Ole von Beust , academics such as Wolfgang Franz , media representatives such as Christoph Keese , Harald Ehren and Mercedes Bunz as well as big business figures such as Eckhard Cordes , Alexander Dibelius and Axel Strotbek took part in the German Symposium 2011 . The integration debate with Henryk M. Broder , Hellmuth Karasek , Ali Kizilkaya and Thilo Sarrazin was particularly well received by the media in German and international newspapers as the LSE university management canceled the event on site one hour before it began. The LSE German Society moved the discussion to a neighboring hotel.
