The Lac de Payolle is an artificial lake in the French Pyrenees on the territory of the communes of Campan and Arreau in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region in southwestern France. Its west bank forms the border between the municipalities of Arreau and the town of Ancizan . The lake is usually frozen over during winter.

The lake is at the foot of the Col d'Aspin at an altitude of 1139 meters. With an area of ten hectares , it is fed by three mountain streams and drained by the Adour .
tourism
The lake is the center of an important tourist area, namely the ski station of Payolle, where you can practice various activities such as mountain biking , orienteering , cross-country skiing , snowshoeing , dog sledding, horse and pony trips, paragliding or hiking .
You can fish on the lake, for which a tourist course has been created, which offers small paths for fishermen and also enables other water sports such as canoeing, windsurfing and sailing . In 2016, Lac de Payolle was the destination of the Tour de France for the first time .
