Lacrimas Profundere ( Latin to shed tears ) is a German dark rock band from Waging am See .

history

Oliver Nikolas Schmid founded Lacrimas Profundere in 1993 and is the only permanent member of the band

Lacrimas Profundere was founded in 1993 by the guitarist Oliver Nikolas Schmid, shortly afterwards his brother Christopher joined the project. The musicians involved changed several times during the group's activity period. Lately only Oliver Nikolas Schmid remained as a permanent member of the group. In 1995 the debut album … And the Wings Embraced Us was released without a releasing label in a first stable band constellation, which sometimes benefited from the classical instrument training of the violinist Anja Hötzendorfer . The album received few but positive reviews, which mostly drew parallels to My Dying Bride . The album generated enough popularity to release the second album La Naissance D'Un Rêve on the Swiss independent label Witchhunt Records . Also with this second album, Lacrimas Profundere generated little attention. Nevertheless, the band was able to sign a contract with Napalm Records after the release , whereby the third studio album Memorandum , released in 1999, could be advertised more widely. The cooperation with Napalm Records kept the band for years and generated increasing popularity. Memorandum gave the group a positive reception internationally and enabled the band to achieve success in South America and Japan , where they performed at various festivals.

With the fourth studio album, Burning: A Wish , released in 2001 , the band made a lasting change in style towards dark rock. Burning: A Wish was positively received internationally and was able to expand the popularity built up with Memorandum . With the fall, I Will Follow , which followed in 2002 , Lacrimas Profundere built on the success and the album was placed in international music magazines as album of the month. Appearances with Paradise Lost and Amorphis followed . The built-up popularity sometimes led to the fact that the group recorded a first music video for the title track for the album Ave End , released in 2004 . The video was included in the rotation on German music television, especially on VIVA .

Filthy Notes for Frozen Hearts , released two years after Ave End , entered the German album charts as the group's first album. Some of the albums that followed built this success even further. Filthy Notes for Frozen Hearts reached number 82, Songs for the Last View number 73 and Hope is Here number 30. With Hope is Here , Lacrimas Profundere made a label change to SPV . However, since Filthy Notes for Frozen Hearts the releases have received mixed reviews. Critical voices describe the publications as lacking in variety, while laudatory reviews describe the orientation as a found style. However, the group hardly experienced a consistently positive reception like on the previous albums. The band's popularity still remained. The band has now performed in 29 countries, especially in Asia, South America and Europe, as well as at various metal and black scene festivals. At the end of May, Nikolas Schmid announced that singer Roberto Vitacca had left the band. The appearance at the M'era Luna Festival 2018 was the last appearance of Vitacca, who handed over to his successor, Julian Larre, during the concert.

Furthermore, longtime lead guitarist Tony Berger, as well as the rhythm crew, consisting of the twins Clemens (bass) and Christoph (drums) Schepperle, left the band on the same day.

style

With the changing musicians, the group increasingly changed the style of play from Gothic Metal on the first albums to a dark rock called "Rock'n'Sad" of later releases. The early releases are compared to popular Gothic Metal bands like My Dying Bride and Anathema , while the releases since Burning: A Wish are associated with bands like HIM and The 69 Eyes . The lyrics are in English with the exception of the song Lilienmeer , which is performed in German, and Priamus from La Naissance D'Un Rêve , which is sung in Latin.
