Lactos has 1685 inhabitants (2015), of which 814 are men and 871 women. The population density is 98.5 inhabitants / km². There are 328 households in the Suco. Over 90% of the residents state Bunak as their mother tongue. Minorities speak Tetum Prasa or Kemak .

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Lactos had an area of 14.14 km². Now there are 17.11 km². The Suco is to the west of the Fohorem administrative office. To the west is Suco Dato Rua , which also belongs to Fohorem , to the south of Fohoren and to the east of Dato Tolu . In the north, Lactos borders on the administrative office of Fatululic with its suco of the same name. The only river worth mentioning is the Nanamauk on the southeast border with Fohoren, a tributary of the Tafara .

Coming from Fohoren a small road leads to the place Lactos. The other two larger villages of Sucos, Fatuc Laran ( Fatuk Claran ) and Kiohor ( Klohor ) are also located on it. Fatuc Laran has a medical station and a primary school, the Escola Primaria Fatuc Laran No.02 Lactos . The Suco is poorly connected to the outside world. For the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2007 , the ballot boxes had to be brought to the polling station in the elementary school and picked up by helicopter.

In the Suco there are the four Aldeias Au-Lulic , Cacaut , Calobor and Fatuc Laran .

history

The area of Lactos belonged to the exclave of Maucatar, which was subordinated to the Netherlands in the Treaty of Lisbon (1859) . Maucatar was only connected to the rest of the Dutch territory by a narrow strip in the north. All around were Timorese empires that were assigned to Portugal . Although there was already an agreement between the colonial powers in 1904 that Maucatar was to be ceded to the Portuguese, it was not until 1916 that it passed into Portuguese ownership.

After the independence referendum in East Timor in 1999 , there was a massacre in Lactos. After the announcement that it was in favor of independence from Indonesia , the residents of Lactos feared reprisals and fled into the hills. The local leader of the pro-Indonesian militia Laksaur had received an order from the Indonesian military to deport the population to West Timor . On September 12, a group of Indonesian soldiers and militiamen found the refugees and told them to go to West Timor. The villagers, some of whom were armed with machetes, refused. As they advanced towards the Indonesians, soldiers and militiamen opened fire and killed 14 civilians. Another man was stabbed to death.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , António Gomes was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections , António Gomes de Araújo won .
