history

Taroman was one of the Timorese empires that was ruled by a Liurai . According to oral tradition, it was subordinate to the kingdom of Fohorem and paid tribute.

Both sucos fatulics belonged to the exclave of Maucatar, which was subordinated to the Netherlands in the Treaty of Lisbon (1859) . Maucatar was only connected to the rest of the Dutch territory on Timor via a narrow strip in the north . All around were Timorese empires that were assigned to Portugal . Although there was already an agreement between the colonial powers in 1904 that Maucatar was to be ceded to the Portuguese, it was not until 1916 that it passed into Portuguese ownership.

The mountain Taroman ( 1744  m ) was from 1976 a retreat area of the FALINTIL , who fought against the Indonesian invaders. Here she founded a base de apoio , a resistance base that offered refuge for refugees from Cova Lima. The base was later destroyed by the Indonesians.
