Fatululic ( Fatululik, Fatu-Lulik, Fatolulic, Fatulilic , Fatululique ) is an East Timorese place and Suco in the municipality of Cova Lima . Fatululic is the administrative seat of the Fatululic Administration Office .
The name
The cliffs characteristic of Timor are called Fatu (derived from the Tetum word Fatuk for "rock"). The word lulic (or lulik ) means "holy". "Fatululic" thus means "holy cliff" or "holy rock". In the southeast of the Sucos Fatululic lies the Foho Taroman , the highest mountain in the municipality of Cova Lima at 1744 m . It used to be a place for animistic rites.
In 1936, Fatululic was renamed Nova Monchique by the Portuguese . But the name did not catch on and a few years after the Second World War , the old name was reverted to.
The place
The place Fatululic is located in the north of the Sucos of the same name, 86 km as the crow flies southwest of the state capital Dili and about 19 km northwest of Suai at an altitude of 1348 m .

Before the 2015 regional reform, Fatululic had an area of 21.42 km². Now there are 19.37 km². The Suco forms the western part of the administrative office. To the east lies the Suco Taroman, which also belongs to the administrative office , to the south the administrative office Fohorem with its sucos Dato Rua , Lactos and Dato Tolu . To the north lies the Indonesian West Timor . The border river to the neighboring state is the Lelosi , a tributary of the Tafara .
A country road leads in an east-west direction across the Suco and connects the small towns of Beco ( Beko ), Beidasi , Fatululic and Aitoun with the outside world. There is a primary school each in Aitoun and Beidasi ( Escola Primaria Beidasi ). Despite the country road, the ballot boxes for the parliamentary elections in East Timor had to be brought by helicopter to the polling station in the Beidasi elementary school and picked up.
Company B of the Unidade de Patrulhamento de Fronteira (UPF) has its base near Beco .
In the Suco there are the three Aldeias Aitoun , Beco and Beidasi .
The Suco has 595 inhabitants (2015), of which 292 are men and 303 women. The population density is 30.7 inhabitants / km². There are 121 households in the Suco. More than 95% of the residents state Bunak as their mother tongue. Small minorities speak Tetum Prasa or Habun .
history
The Suco Fatululic belonged to the Maucatar exclave, which was subordinated to the Netherlands in the Treaty of Lisbon (1859) . Maucatar was only connected to the rest of the Dutch territory on Timor via a narrow strip in the north . All around were Timorese empires that were assigned to Portugal . Although there was already an agreement between the colonial powers in 1904 that Maucatar was to be ceded to the Portuguese, it was not until 1916 that it passed into Portuguese ownership.
From 1976 onwards, Mount Taroman was a retreat for the FALINTIL , who fought against the Indonesian invaders. Here she founded a base de apoio , a resistance base that offered refuge for refugees from Cova Lima. The base was later destroyed by the Indonesians.
politics
In the elections in May 2005 , 90 women were elected to the Cova Limas Sucorate for the first time. That corresponds to around three women per village. In Fatululic, Lusia Guterres ( Lucia Gutteres , * 1982) was the first woman ever to be elected boss of a sucos in Cova Lima. The mother of three prevailed against four other candidates, although she was a member of an opposition party and not the then dominant FRETILIN . The film Lusia - A Daughter of Fatululik was shot about her . In the new elections on October 9, 2009 , Lourenço da Cruz won .
